Operatives of the Oyo State Police Command have arrested a 28-year-old suspected drug dealer, identified simply as Rilwan, during an early morning raid in the Apata area of Ibadan.
The arrest took place at approximately 8:00 AM on September 11, following targeted surveillance conducted by operatives attached to the Iyaganku Area Command. The operation was launched after police received credible intelligence detailing suspected illicit drug activities in the area.
During the arrest, officers recovered a quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, a white crystalline substance believed to be methamphetamine (popularly known as mkpuru mmiri), and various other illegal drugs.
The suspect remains in police custody and is cooperating with investigators as authorities work to trace the supply chain, uncover the source of the drugs, and identify potential accomplices.
Reiterating the command’s commitment to tackling crime, the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, emphasized that illegal drugs remain a primary catalyst for broader criminality across the state. He assured residents that intelligence-led operations targeting drug trafficking networks will be intensified.
“The Command will continue to work assiduously to identify and disrupt the supply chains of catalytic elements of crime,” CP Olugbenga stated, noting that proactive policing remains a top priority.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, confirmed in an official statement on September 13 that the suspect will be formally charged in court upon the conclusion of preliminary investigations.
