Police Arrest Suspected Gun Fabricator, Drug Dealer in Delta, Recover Firearms, Hard Drugs

-

The Delta State Police Command has intensified its crime-fighting operations across the state, leading to the arrest of a suspected firearm fabricator and a drug dealer, as well as the recovery of locally made guns and hard drugs.

Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement issued in Asaba, noting that the operations were part of ongoing proactive and intelligence-driven policing under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola.

According to Edafe, operatives of the Raiders Squad acting on credible intelligence arrested a suspected illegal firearm fabricator during a raid in Emuhu Community, Ika South Local Government Area of the state.

“The operation was carried out in the early hours of March 6, 2026, at about 0500hrs by operatives of the Raiders Squad led by the Commander, SP Akanya Agbogha. The team raided a suspected firearm manufacturing depot following credible intelligence,” he said.

He stated that the suspect, identified as Friday Ojei, 59, was arrested during the raid.

“A search of the premises led to the recovery of four locally fabricated guns. Also recovered were one welding machine, one drilling machine, one grinding machine, and assorted metal pipes suspected to be used in the fabrication of firearms,” Edafe said.

He added that the suspect is currently in police custody while investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the illegal firearm production network.

In another operation, Edafe said a combined patrol team comprising operatives of the Ovwian-Aladja Division, Police Raiders Volunteers, Anti-Cult Volunteers, and Hunters Volunteers recovered a locally made gun during a routine stop-and-search operation along Film Hall Road, Ovwian-Aladja.

“During the operation, the patrol team sighted a group of suspected hoodlums who immediately took to flight upon noticing the security operatives. The team pursued the suspects, who abandoned a black bag as they fled. A search of the bag led to the recovery of one locally made short gun,” he said.

The police spokesman noted that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

In a related development, operatives of the Ovwian-Aladja Police Station arrested a suspected drug dealer following a targeted raid along Oruworowh Road in Udu.

Edafe said the operation, which was based on credible intelligence about illicit drug activities in the area, led to the arrest of Esther Etafo, 43.

“A search of the premises led to the recovery of various quantities of suspected hard drugs, including cannabis, kolos, ice, loud, and fermented Indian hemp,” he said.

He added that three blenders suspected to be used in processing the substances and the sum of ₦55,000, believed to be proceeds from the illicit drug trade, were also recovered.

“The suspect is currently undergoing interrogation while further investigation is ongoing,” he said.

Commending the operatives for their professionalism and vigilance, the Commissioner of Police, Aina Adesola, urged residents to support the police with timely and credible information.

“The Command remains resolute in its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents across Delta State,” Edafe quoted the commissioner as saying.
