The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has disowned a purported press release claiming that Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, had directed the commencement of training for 50,000 newly recruited police constables.
The Force described the document as false and urged members of the public, particularly police recruitment candidates, to disregard its contents.
The purported statement, which was circulated online, bore the name and designation of the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the NPF said the document was neither authorised nor issued by the Force.
The police said: “The Nigeria Police Force disclaims the purported Press Release titled, ‘IGP OLATUNJI RILWAN DISU DIRECTS COMMENCEMENT OF TRAINING FOR 50,000 NEWLY RECRUITED POLICE CONSTABLES,’ currently in circulation and bearing the name and designation of the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, anipr.”
According to the Force, “The document is false and was neither issued nor authorised by the Nigeria Police Force.”
The NPF consequently advised members of the public, especially candidates participating in the ongoing police recruitment process, to rely only on information released through official channels.
“Members of the public, particularly Police recruitment candidates, are advised to disregard its contents and rely only on information published through the official Police recruitment portal and verified NPF communication channels,” the statement added.
The Force further disclosed that it had commenced efforts to identify those behind the production and circulation of the fake document.
“The Force is currently on the trail of the persons responsible for generating and circulating the false document and will take appropriate legal action against those found culpable,” the police said.
The development comes amid growing concerns over the circulation of fake recruitment-related information online, with prospective police recruits often targeted by fraudulent announcements and misleading claims.
