Police recover N21m worth of diverted goods in Edo

Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have recovered goods worth N14million diverted from Rongsheng Glass Benin meant to be delivered to their customer at Onitsha but diverted to Ekiti State.

It was gathered the police team, acting on a petition addressed to the commissioner of police on the 3rd February from Ausuda Logistics Company Benin City, on 26th April 2022, arrested the following Murtala Bolaji, 35, Sunday Olayemi Emmanuel, 36,  and Adesoye Adeyemi, 35 for diverting a truck loaded with 18 cases of glass from Rongsheng Glass Benin meant to be delivered to their customer on 29th January 2022 at Onitsha, but diverted it to Ekiti State and sold at a cheaper price.

The Edo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), a Superintendent of Police (SP), Kontongs Bello, confirmed the incident, said: “The receiver of the said goods Bolaji Muritala confessed to having bought it for N14,000,000.00 as opposed to the company’s market value of N21,000,000.00. The suspects have all confessed to the crime and will soon be charged in court accordingly. The sum of N11,000,000 and a Lexus 350 car, black in colour was recovered from the suspects. The Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, CP Abutu Yaro, while commending the efforts of operatives of the command, reassured members of the public of the command’s determination in the fight against criminal elements in the state.”
