Police operatives in Enugu State have recovered a Toyota Avensis car nearly four months after it was reported stolen in Benue State, leading to the arrest of three male suspects.
According to a police statement, officers attached to the Unity Division, acting on a security tip-off, located the vehicle at Ibagwa-Nike, Enugu, on Monday, October 13, at approximately 2:10 p.m.
The car had been reported stolen from where it was parked in Otukpo, Benue State, on June 29, 2025.
The three suspects arrested in connection with the crime were identified as Ernest Oshi, 51; Ukpai Ifeanyi, 36; and Ogbuzulu David, 32.
Preliminary investigations revealed a chain of transactions involving the stolen vehicle. Police said Ernest Oshi allegedly purchased the car from Ukpai Ifeanyi, a mechanic. Ifeanyi, in turn, reportedly bought it from Ogbuzulu David, a car dealer. David claimed to have purchased the vehicle from another mechanic based in Benue State.
Police confirmed that the suspects have begun to confess their individual levels of involvement in the crime.
The suspects and the recovered Toyota Avensis have been transferred to the Benue State Police Command, which has jurisdiction over the original theft, for conclusive investigation and prosecution.
