Police Smash Drug Ring in Enugu, Arrest Four, Recover Millions in Cash, Narcotics

-

The Enugu State Police Command has intensified its offensive against the narcotics trade, resulting in the arrest of four suspects and the recovery of significant quantities of illicit substances and ₦1.8 million in cash.

The crackdown, which took place over the last 48 hours, targeted known criminal hideouts and “black spots” across the state capital.

The most significant breakthrough occurred on the morning of January 26, 2026, when the Command’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team executed a raid behind the New Market area. During the operation, officers apprehended 46-year-old Omeru Nkechi, a suspected female drug peddler.

Beyond the substantial cash haul found in her possession, investigators recovered a large bag of suspected Indian hemp and an assortment of items suggesting involvement in other criminal activities, including a POS machine, ATM cards, and various electrical wires and machinery.

“Our operatives are moving with precision based on intelligence-led data,” stated SP Daniel Ndukwe, the Command’s Public Relations Officer. “The recovery of such a large sum of money alongside these substances underscores the scale of the networks we are currently dismantling.”

In a separate operation conducted on January 25, the Command’s Anti-Cultism Squad swept through Obeagu, Asata, and the Holy Ghost Railway Area. This patrol led to the arrest of three young men: Anielozie Emmanuel, 21; Ekoh Miracle, 20; and Nwachukwu Michael, 27. Michael has been identified by authorities as a suspected member of the Vikings Confraternity.

The squad recovered 32 containers of suspected cannabis and 12 wrapped pills believed to be hard drugs from the trio.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, reaffirmed that the Command will not relent in its mission to sanitise the state. “We are maintaining an unwavering commitment to sustaining the fight against drug abuse, cultism, and all forms of criminality,” the Commissioner said. “We urge every citizen to remain vigilant and continue providing the credible information we need to keep our communities safe.”

While the four suspects remain in custody, police confirmed that discreet investigations are ongoing to track down further accomplices and completely uproot the drug-peddling networks operating within the metropolis.
