Police Warn Officers Against Lobbying for Special Promotions

-

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has expressed concern over the growing wave of lobbying and unofficial requests directed at the Inspector-General of Police and the Police Service Commission by some officers seeking special promotions.

According to the Force, the surge follows misinformation circulated by certain media platforms after the recent approval of accelerated promotions for several deserving officers.

In a statement, the NPF stressed that the promotions were not arbitrary but part of a structured reward system designed to recognise officers who have demonstrated outstanding performance, uncommon bravery, professional excellence, and dedication to duty. Only those who met the established guidelines benefited from the exercise, it said, adding that it did not mark the start of a general or indiscriminate promotion scheme.

The Force also dismissed a report by a particular online platform suggesting arbitrary promotions, describing it as “baseless, misleading, and aimed at undermining the integrity of the promotion process.”

It warned officers against lobbying or attempting to influence promotions through unofficial channels, stating that such conduct is unethical, violates the principles of meritocracy, and will attract severe disciplinary action under existing laws and regulations.

The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to a promotion system anchored on integrity, merit, and honourable service, urging all personnel to remain disciplined and dedicated in the discharge of their duties.
