The Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, on Thursday extended his familiarisation tour of Area Commands to Ozoro, where he paid a courtesy visit to the Ovie of Ozoro Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Barr. Anthony Uvietobore Ogbogbo (Ibuka I) before meeting community stakeholders and command officers.
The visit forms part of the Inspector-General of Police’s policing vision of deepening grassroots policing through stronger collaboration with traditional institutions and local communities.
At the royal palace, the CP commended the kingdom for its sustained support to the Nigeria Police Force and stressed the critical role traditional rulers play in tackling kidnapping, cultism and drug-related crimes, particularly in rural communities.
He said effective policing and sustainable economic development are inextricably linked and appealed for continued support through community partnership.
Acknowledging the challenges of confronting criminal elements, the CP assured the monarch of the command’s commitment to intelligence-led, professional and lawful policing.
Responding, the monarch reaffirmed the palace’s confidence in the Nigeria Police Force and pledged the kingdom’s continued cooperation, assuring the Commissioner that the palace would always support police efforts to protect lives and property and sustain peace within the kingdom.
The Commissioner later met stakeholders and officers of the Ozoro Area Command, where he reiterated that security is a collective responsibility requiring active public participation.
He urged residents to volunteer credible and timely information to the police.
He also charged officers to uphold discipline, professionalism and respect for human rights, warning them to strictly adhere to the Force’s Social Media Policy and avoid conduct that could bring disrepute to the institution.
He directed officers to intensify intelligence-led operations against kidnapping, cultism, drug-related crimes and other criminal activities, while strengthening public confidence through effective community policing.
