Residents of Gummi town in Zamfara State have commended troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, following a successful operation that led to the killing of scores of suspected terrorists and the recovery of several motorcycles allegedly used in bandit attacks.
According to a statement by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division, Nigerian Army/Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, the residents turned out in large numbers on Thursday to welcome the troops as they returned to base after the operation at Dutsen Gidan Hill, about 17 kilometres from Gummi town in Gummi Local Government Area.
Osoba said the troops demonstrated “exceptional tactical superiority” during the operation, neutralising scores of terrorists and recovering dozens of motorcycles reportedly used by the criminal elements to terrorise communities in the area. The recovered motorcycles were transported to the military headquarters on an Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC).
He noted that the troops’ return triggered spontaneous celebrations, with residents gathering at the military base to applaud the soldiers for their bravery and sacrifices in the fight against banditry.
According to the statement, the show of appreciation reflects growing public confidence in the ongoing military operations across the North-West and highlights the strengthening relationship between local communities and security forces.
Osoba reiterated that Operation FANSAN YAMMA remains committed to sustaining its offensive against banditry and other criminal activities in the region.
He also expressed appreciation for the continued support and actionable intelligence provided by members of the public, noting that such collaboration remains vital to efforts aimed at restoring lasting peace and security across the North-West.
