Retired Major General Dies In Bandits’ Captivity — Katsina Government

-

The Katsina State Government has announced the death of Retired Major General Rabe Abubakar while in the custody of bandits, confirming that efforts to secure his release were unsuccessful.

In a statement released by the Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr Nasiru Muazu, the government said the retired general died of natural causes arising from complications of diabetes and hypertension while held captive.

“Despite the relentless and concerted efforts of the State Government and various Security Agencies to secure his safe release, the situation ended in this tragedy,” the statement read.

Governor Dikko Umaru Radda described the incident as a “dark moment,” extending condolences to the general’s family and calling for a renewed collective effort against banditry. “His abduction and subsequent death are not only a loss to his family and Katsina State but a monumental loss to the entire country,” the statement added.

The government pledged to work with federal authorities and security forces to bring those responsible to justice, reaffirming its commitment to eliminating banditry across the state.
