Series #109: Avoid Becoming a Victim While Attempting a Rescue

-

Helping others in distress is a noble act, but it must be done wisely. In emergencies, rushing into a dangerous situation without the right skills, equipment, or support can cause additional casualties rather than saving lives.

When a person has fallen into deep water, jumped from a height, or is in another life-threatening situation, the safest response is to immediately alert the appropriate emergency services and, where possible, use safe rescue methods without putting yourself at unnecessary risk. Untrained attempts at physical rescue can endanger both the victim and the rescuer.
A safety-conscious individual knows the limits of personal intervention, prioritises calling for professional help, and avoids actions that could increase the number of victims.
Quote: A successful rescue protects both the victim and the rescuer. Never let one emergency become two.
Just be good. Reflect. Stay alert.
