Suspect arrested in Lagos after allegedly killing policeman, stealing rifle of another cop in Ogun

The Lagos State Police today 27th of March 2024, said it has arrested a suspected armed robber, who killed a policeman in Ogun State, snatched the rifle of another policeman in the state and then went underground.

The suspect, identified as Mr Seun Samuel, whom police said has been terrorising Ogun and Lagos states for years, revealed that he used to be a phone engineer before the glamour of robbery beckoned.

According to a police source: “The suspect and gangs killed a policeman at Ifo and he would later steal the rifle of another policeman at Abeokuta.

“The suspect and his gang members were declared wanted in Ogun State before they were finally arrested by Operatives of Lagos State Command.”

The Commissioner of Police, CP Adegoke Fayoade who paraded the suspect along with other suspects, said the gang of eight killed a policeman and went away with his service rifle in the Ifo area of Ogun State.

Samuel, who denied killing any policeman, explained that his life turned bad after he was introduced to a friend.

He said that he was introduced to a guy called Badoo and a fast friendship developed. Badoo would later convince Samuel to join him in armed robbery and the latter soon took to the crime like duck to water.

Samuel said: “My first operation with the gang was at Abeokuta where we robbed a two-storey building. We had to scale the fence to be able to gain access.

“I was the one who scaled the fence and opened the gate for others to come in. Immediately we entered into the building, a policeman guarding the building ran into the toilet. We picked up his rifle and left the place. It was one of us called Michael who took the rifle to his house.

“Since I joined robbery, I have not killed before now. In our second operation in Lagos, we only collected phones and money. We have robbed in Oshodi, Ikorodu and Ifo area of Ogun. We also collected a vehicle from the owner at Abeokuta.

“However, the vehicle was driven away by Badoo who is our leader. I was introduced to Badoo by Ameachi. I once worked with a politician at Mowe, but because he abandoned me and others and I didn’t have anything to do again that was why I decided to join the robbery. I regretted my actions.

“I was also into boxing, but I had an accident and one of my arms got dislocated that was why I couldn’t fix phones and computers anymore. It was Badoo and Michael who used to bring the guns we were using for our operation. I am not the owner of the guns. I also didn’t shoot a gun.”

He further claimed that since he joined the gang he has only collected N210,000 from the proceeds of the three robbery operations.

“I am appealing to the government that if I’m given a second chance, I promise never to rob again.”
