Some suspected bandits have ambushed and killed five police personnel and three military personnel attached to SETRACO Construction Company in Zamfara State.
According to a Situation Report sighted by our reporter, the incident occurred on the 12th of September 2024, at about 7:am, in an ambush that killed military and police personnel.
The bandits also carted away four firearms of these personnel. The incident was brought to the attention of the Zamfara State Police Command by a senior police officer identified as Kotorkoshi.
The SIT Rep states thus: “A group of armed bandits in their large numbers wielding sophisticated weapons, laid an ambush on military attached to Setraco Construction Company between Tazame and Yandoto highway in Kotorkoshi district of Bungudu Local Government Area while heading to the company site.
“On receipt of the report, a team of CTU personnel on pin down point at Tazame village responded to the distress call and also entered into the ambush.
“After a long exchange of fire, the team ran short of ammunition due to the bandits’ large number.
“Unfortunately, five police personnel (Four CTU and One PMF) Namely, AP. 335808 Inspector Murtala Ahmed, AP. 360880 Inspector Sani Abdullahi, AP. 360877 Inspector Akilu Isah, AP. 363748 Inspector Kabiru Halliru and F/No. 503744 Sergeant Junaidu Abubakar and three military personnel were shot dead by the bandits.
“Four of their serviceable rifles with breach number T06 07004055, AK-47 56-14861553, AK-47 56-2403214 and AK-47 13411 were carted away by the bandits.
“However, the Commissioner of Police led joint police tactical teams to the scene. The entire area was combed and searched, and corpses were recovered and evacuated to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Gusau for a post-mortem exam. Efforts to recover the carted away arms intensified.”
For years, personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, especially the rank and file have been complaining about the provision of inadequate ammunition and obsolete weapons.
Many have insisted that they were being sent on suicide missions, while others claimed to have repeatedly used their money to buy ammunition.
