Suspected Kidnapper Neutralised, Pump Action Guns, Pistol Recovered

The Delta State Police Command said it has neutralised a suspected kidnapper and recovered two pump action guns and a Barretta Pistol.

The Command furthermore said that it arrested suspected cultists and recovered one locally made cut-to-size gun with six life cartridges.

The Delta State Police Spokesman, Bright Edafe, explained that on the 12th of August 2024, at about 4:30 pm operatives of the Commissioner of Police, Special Squad while on investigation alongside a suspected kidnapper Joel Ochuko Ofoye, who was earlier arrested on the 18th of July 2024, the suspect led the operatives to Ewu community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State on the trail of a gun runner who supply arms to them.

Edafe said: “While they were on his trail, the team came under attack by the suspect’s gang members in a bid to free the said Joel Ochuko.

“The Police overpowered the hoodlums as they fled with bullet injuries, the suspect Joel Ochuko Ofoye was hit during the gun duel, and he was taken to General Hospital Ughelli where he died while receiving treatment. One Baretta Pistol with four rounds of live ammunition, one pump action with nine rounds of cartridges, and one locally fabricated revolver pump action was recovered and a manhunt for the fleeing suspects is ongoing.”

On the arrest of suspected kidnappers, Edafe said that on14th of August 2024 at about 7:45 pm, the Anti-Crime patrol team of Oghara Division while on ‘stop and search’ duty along Otefe Ijomi Community Road, intercepted a motorcycle carrying 22-year-old Ovoke Benedict and 23-year-old Fredrick Urhoborume.

“The Policemen subjected them to a search during which one locally made cut-to-size gun with six live cartridges was recovered from them. Preliminary investigation revealed that they are suspected to be members of Arrow Barger Confraternity investigation is ongoing,” said Edafe.
