The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has confirmed that one of its C-130 transport aircraft, en route to Portugal on a ferry mission, made a precautionary landing in Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso, on December 8, 2025, following a technical concern observed by the crew shortly after takeoff from Lagos.
Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information at Headquarters, Nigerian Air Force, issued a statement clarifying reports about the diversion.
“Following takeoff from Lagos, the crew observed a technical concern which necessitated a precautionary landing in Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso, the nearest airfield, in accordance with standard safety procedures and international aviation protocols,” stated Air Commodore Ejodame.
The NAF confirmed that the crew members are safe and have received cordial treatment from the host authorities in Burkina Faso.
According to the statement, plans are currently underway to resume the mission as originally scheduled.
The Nigerian Air Force emphasised its commitment to safety and operational compliance. “The Nigerian Air Force appreciates the support received during this period and assures the public that NAF remains professionally committed to strict compliance with operational procedures and safety standards, ensuring the protection of its personnel while fulfilling its constitutional mandate,” the statement concluded.
