Ten Police Officers Killed in Fierce Kebbi Bandit Clash, IGP Disu Vows Their Sacrifice Will Not Be Forgotten

-

The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the death of ten officers following a fierce encounter with suspected bandits along the Rafin Makuku axis of Sakaba Local Government Area, Kebbi State.

The incident occurred at about 9:25 a.m. on Monday, August 10, 2026, when operatives intercepted the armed group moving between Zamfara and Kebbi States. According to police authorities, at least 17 suspected bandits were neutralised during the exchange, while four motorcycles belonging to the attackers were destroyed.

Tragically, ten police personnel were killed in the line of duty, while two others sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical attention. Two civilians also lost their lives in the crossfire.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing it as “a painful blow to the Force and the nation.” He added, “These gallant officers paid the ultimate price while defending the people they swore to protect. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten and will continue to be honoured by the Nigeria Police Force.”

The remains of the fallen officers have been conveyed to Birnin Kebbi, while security has been reinforced in the area to sustain operations and pursue fleeing members of the criminal group. The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, noted that additional personnel have been deployed to ensure stability.

“We remain deeply mindful of the pain and loss suffered by the families of our fallen heroes. The Force will continue to stand with the bereaved families, provide every necessary support to them and the injured personnel, while honouring the memory and sacrifice of our officers through sustained efforts to bring the fleeing suspects to justice,” he said.

The Nigeria Police Force has assured the public that operations will continue until the perpetrators are apprehended and peace is fully restored in the region.
