Three Arrested After Family of Six Killed and Dumped in River in Lagelu

-

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the killing and robbery of a family at Oloba Village, Lagelu Local Government Area of Ibadan.

The suspects, identified as Hammed Akinbami, Akinbami Ojo and Padonu Edward, all residents of Oloba Village, were arrested after the Command received credible intelligence on October 2, 2026, at about 5:00 p.m. The attack itself took place on September 22, 2026, at about 7:00 p.m.

According to police, the suspects invaded the home of Ifeanyi Chukwu, his wife and their four children, armed with a locally made Dane gun, two cutlasses and a club.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects robbed the family of ₦200,000 in cash, a Boxer motorcycle, a Doma machine with chainsaw, and a spraying machine. Police said Hammed Akinbami shot the husband, while Akinbami Ojo and Padonu Edward hit the wife on the head.

Police said the attack turned fatal when the suspects tied two of the children by their hands and legs and threw them into a nearby river. The other family members were killed and their bodies dumped in the same river.

Detectives visited the scene, took photographs and recovered several exhibits, including the family’s Boxer motorcycle, the Dane gun, the two cutlasses and the club allegedly used in the attack. The three suspects were arrested and detained.

During interrogation, all three reportedly confessed to the crime. The remains of the wife have been recovered, while efforts are ongoing to retrieve the bodies of the four other victims.

The suspects and the case file will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, for further investigation and prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, has ordered a thorough investigation to ensure that all those found culpable are brought to justice.

The information was contained in a statement issued on October 6, 2026, by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka.
