The Ogun State Police Command has arraigned five men before the Ota Magistrate Court over an alleged attack on police officers in the Iyana-Iyesi area of Ota, during which a suspected drug peddler escaped custody.
The incident happened on October 2, 2026, around The Bells area of Iyana-Iyesi. According to police, a patrol team had arrested a suspect found with a large quantity of suspected Indian hemp. While the officers were taking him to the station, they were allegedly ambushed by a group armed with cutlasses, stones and bottles.
Police said the attack left some officers injured, damaged their patrol vehicle and allowed the suspect to escape.
Following intelligence-led operations, five people were arrested. They are Morenikeji Badmus, 36; Adedoja Segun, 40; Jeremiah Odise Ugbede Onride, 49; Mike Stephen, 28; and David Odeh, 32.
They face charges of conspiracy, serious assault, obstruction of police duty and breach of the peace.
The command said efforts are ongoing to track down other members of the group who took part in the attack.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, warned that attacks on officers carrying out their lawful duties will not be tolerated, and that anyone who obstructs or assaults the police will face the full weight of the law.
