Tinubu Declares Nationwide Security Emergency, Orders Massive Recruitment

-

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared a nationwide security emergency in response to escalating threats across the country, directing the Armed Forces and Police to immediately recruit thousands of additional personnel.

In a statement released from the State House, Tinubu announced that the Nigeria Police Force will recruit 20,000 new officers, raising its strength to 50,000.

He also authorised the use of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) camps as training depots and ordered that officers withdrawn from VIP guard duties undergo crash training before deployment to volatile areas.

The President further empowered the Department of State Services (DSS) to deploy trained forest guards to flush out terrorists and bandits hiding in forests, while mandating the agency to expand recruitment for forest security operations.

“This is a national emergency, and we are responding by deploying more boots on the ground, especially in security-challenged areas,” Tinubu said, urging Nigerians to support the effort by remaining vigilant and cooperating with security agencies.

Tinubu commended security forces for the recent rescue of 24 schoolgirls in Kebbi and 38 worshippers in Kwara State, pledging continued efforts to free hostages still held in Niger State and elsewhere. He also paid tribute to fallen soldiers, including Brigadier-General Musa Uba, and sympathised with families affected by recent attacks in Kebbi, Borno, Zamfara, Niger, Yobe, and Kwara States.

The President called on the National Assembly to review laws enabling states to establish police forces where necessary, while cautioning state governments against siting boarding schools in remote areas without adequate security. He also urged religious institutions in vulnerable regions to seek police protection during gatherings.

Addressing the persistent clashes between herders and farmers, Tinubu highlighted the creation of the Livestock Ministry as a long-term solution. He appealed to herder associations to embrace ranching, end open grazing, and surrender illegal weapons, promising federal and state collaboration to resolve the crisis.

“This administration has the courage and determination to keep the country safe and ensure our citizens live in peace,” Tinubu declared. “Fellow compatriots, I urge you not to give in to fear or despair. Let’s stand together in purpose and strength to defend our freedom and values.”
