The Police Service Commission (PSC) and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) have jointly launched a high-powered Ad-hoc Committee to commence the recruitment of 30,000 new police personnel, in line with President Bola Tinubu’s directive to strengthen national security.
The committee was inaugurated on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at the PSC Headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, by the Commission’s Chairman, DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (rtd). The move signals the immediate start of efforts to expand the manpower of the police force amid rising security demands across the country.
According to the PSC, the committee’s mandate is to design a transparent, seamless, and merit-driven recruitment process. It will also ensure strong collaboration between both institutions to guarantee integrity and efficiency throughout the exercise.
Representing the PSC Chairman, DIG (Bar) Taiwo Lakanu (rtd), who also heads the Commission’s Nigeria Police Force Matters Committee, described the partnership as “crucial for a successful exercise.” He reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to a fair, guideline-based recruitment process.
The Inspector-General of Police, represented by CP Edwin Eloho of the Training and Development Department at Force Headquarters, said the recruitment drive is essential to boosting the NPF’s capacity to protect lives and property. He assured the Force’s full cooperation to ensure the process meets national expectations.
The inauguration marks a significant step in the Federal Government’s effort to improve the police-to-citizen ratio and tackle the country’s evolving security challenges.
The PSC is the federal body responsible for appointing, promoting, disciplining, and dismissing officers of the Nigeria Police Force, excluding the Inspector-General. The NPF remains Nigeria’s primary law enforcement institution, tasked with crime prevention, public safety, and maintaining law and order.
