President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved 18-month tenure extensions for the heads of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) and the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).
Those affected are the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, and the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kemi Nanna Nandap.
Under the new arrangement, Nwakuche’s tenure will now end on May 26, 2028, while Nandap will remain in office until June 30, 2028.
According to a statement issued on Monday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the approval followed a recommendation by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
The statement said the extension was meant to address a succession gap in both services and to give the boards enough time to appoint successors.
President Tinubu also commended both officers for the reforms achieved under their leadership and urged them to consolidate those gains.
The President nominated Nwakuche as Controller-General of the Correctional Service in December 2024, and the Senate confirmed his appointment in March 2025.
Nandap was nominated as Comptroller-General of the NIS on February 21, 2024, and the Senate confirmed her appointment on March 1, 2024.
