The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a suspected trans-border armed robber moment after he snatched car at gunpoint.

The suspect, Yahaya Abubakar, has been described as a kingpin by police investigators. During interrogation, the police discovered that the suspects and gang members had snatched the car from its rightful owner at gunpoint on the same date.

The suspects currently in police custody are; Yahaya Abubakar 24, Nasiru Kabir 32 and Danladi Aminu 32.

The Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), a Superintendent of Police, Adewale Osifeso, said: “On 9th September 2022 at about 2:PM,  a team of Police Operatives attached to the Oyo State Police Command’s Monitoring Unit, Ogbomoso operational base while on an intelligence-based anti-crime patrol within Ogbomoso town intercepted the kingpin of a notorious trans-border car snatching syndicate along Ogbomoso, Oyo State. When he was queried about the ownership of KIA-RIA Car which he was driving, he could not give any satisfactory explanation. He later confessed that he was driving the car to Kebbi State from where it would be handed over to his syndicate’s criminal receivers for onward movement to the Niger Republic. The suspect confessed to having led his syndicate members to snatch several exotic cars from their owners at different locations across Oyo and other neighbouring States.  He later led the police operatives attached to the Command’s Monitoring Unit to Kebbi State where two of his criminal receivers, Nasiru Kabiru and Danladi Aminu were arrested.”

According to the image maker, one Torrent Jeep, one Toyota Camry and one Toyota Yaris were recovered from the two criminal receivers.  “Investigation is ongoing and efforts are in progress to apprehend other syndicate members,” said Osifeso.
