Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have recorded fresh operational successes in their sustained campaign to rid the North West region of terrorism and banditry.
Through a series of coordinated offensive operations across Sokoto and Katsina States, the troops neutralised armed terrorists, foiled an attack, thwarted a kidnapping attempt, and recovered a large cache of arms and rustled livestock.
The first encounter occurred on 21 June 2026, when armed terrorists attempted to infiltrate Tureta town in Sokoto State. Responding swiftly to actionable intelligence, troops engaged the criminals, forcing them to abandon their mission and flee.
Aerial surveillance subsequently tracked the fleeing terrorists to Sulubawa Gidan Kare village, where they were observed moving with abducted civilians and rustled livestock. Troops launched a hot pursuit and fought through a hastily mounted ambush by the retreating terrorists, compelling them to scatter. The operation led to the rescue of the abductees, recovery of the rustled cattle, and seizure of two motorcycles used by the terrorists.
In a related development, troops carried out an intelligence-driven dawn raid in the early hours of 22 June 2026 on a known terrorist enclave in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State. The surprise assault overwhelmed the terrorists; two were neutralised in the ensuing firefight while several others fled with gunshot wounds.
A search of the hideout yielded significant recoveries, including a PKT assault rifle, an AK-47 rifle with ammunition, three motorcycles, mobile communication devices, rustled livestock, and other logistical items used by the criminals.
Reacting to the development, the Joint Task Force (North West) said the operations underscore the determination, professionalism, and resilience of troops in taking the fight directly to terrorist and criminal enclaves.
It assured the public that aggressive operations would be sustained to dismantle terrorist networks, deny them freedom of action, and restore lasting peace and security across the North West region. #Securitynewsalert.com
