Nigerian troops have stormed a criminal camp linked to the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in Abator, Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State, recovering firearms, ammunition and materials suspected to be used in making improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
The operation, carried out on October 1, required the soldiers to cross a river and push through difficult forest terrain to reach the hideout.
It followed the rescue of three kidnapped persons in the Osakwa General Area of Ihiala Local Government Area, which triggered a coordinated response by troops and local security volunteers.
At about 5:30 a.m. on October 1, troops of 185 Battalion, working with the local security volunteers, launched a follow-up operation. The operation led to the arrest of a suspected member of the kidnapping syndicate, identified as Sunday Obi.
Further details, including the exact quantity of items recovered, were not immediately available.
