Troops Repel Terrorist Infiltration at Zamfara Base, Rescue Nine Abductees

-

Nigerian Army troops stationed at a Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Kasuwan Daji, Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State, repelled an attempted terrorist infiltration in the early hours of Sunday, inflicting heavy casualties on the attackers and rescuing nine civilians who had been abducted from a nearby community.

According to the Nigerian Army’s Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, the attack began at approximately 1:40 a.m. when terrorists attempted to breach the base under cover of darkness. Troops on alert detected the movement and responded with coordinated fire, forcing the assailants to abandon the assault and flee in disarray.

Reinforcements were deployed shortly after the initial clash, and troops launched a pursuit of the fleeing terrorists, who had abducted an unspecified number of residents from surrounding communities during the raid. The operation led to the safe recovery of nine abducted civilians.

Two security personnel were killed in the exchange: one Army officer and one police officer. Two soldiers were wounded by gunfire and were airlifted for medical treatment; both are said to be in stable condition.

The Army said troops have since secured the area and are conducting follow-up operations to assess the full extent of the terrorists’ losses and ensure the safety of residents.

Military officials also moved to dispel unverified claims circulating online that six personnel had died in the attack, stating that only two personnel, the Army officer and the police officer, lost their lives.

Describing the incident as part of a broader pattern of setbacks for armed groups in the region, the Army said the failed infiltration reflects growing pressure on terrorist networks operating across the North West, adding that Operation FANSAN YAMMA remains committed to protecting communities and dismantling such networks.
