Two men, Ezema Onyedikachi, 27, and Ugwu Chigozie Anthony, 21, have been arraigned and remanded in correctional custody in connection with the fatal stabbing of 29-year-old Nweze Chiebonam at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).
The Enugu State Police Command announced that the suspects face a two-count charge of conspiracy and murder following the incident, which occurred after a university bonfire event on September 13, 2025.
According to the police, the altercation began around 3 a.m. when a minor car accident between vehicles belonging to the deceased and Ugwu Anthony sparked a fight. While the initial dispute was reportedly resolved, authorities allege the suspects later conspired and returned to the scene armed with a dagger.
Police investigations state that Ezema Onyedikachi then used the dagger to fatally stab Nweze Chiebonam in the chest. The victim was rushed to a hospital but was confirmed dead on arrival. The alleged murder weapon has been recovered by investigators.
Enugu State Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, described the incident as “unfortunate and avoidable” and extended his condolences to the victim’s family. He cautioned citizens, particularly youths, to exercise self-control and resolve disputes peacefully.
