The United States Air Force has delivered military equipment to the Nigerian Air Force in Lagos and Kainji as part of an ongoing Foreign Military Sales agreement between Nigeria and the United States.
The delivery was made by a U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III and was confirmed by the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) on Thursday.
AFRICOM, in a post on X, described the development as “Partnership in action,” saying the equipment was delivered under a Foreign Military Sales agreement designed to strengthen the defence partnership between the two countries.
According to AFRICOM, the military support will assist Nigeria in countering terrorism and other security threats in the region.
The command said the delivery would further enhance “Nigerian-led efforts against terrorism,” while stressing that U.S. military support to the Nigerian Armed Forces is provided at Nigeria’s invitation and is “rooted in respect for Nigerian sovereignty.”
The latest delivery comes amid continued security cooperation between Nigeria and the United States, particularly in the areas of counter-terrorism and strengthening the operational capacity of the Nigerian military.
However, neither AFRICOM nor the Nigerian Air Force disclosed details of the specific equipment delivered or its financial value.
