Veteran journalist, Bimbo Oloyede unveils plans to raise funds for cancer patients in Nigeria

-

The Co-Founder Of Lifeline Advocacy And Development Initiative, Mrs Bimbo Oloyede, has unveiled plans to raise N100 million to support cancer patients in public hospitals.

This was made known during a fundraising event which took place at the International Press Centre (IPC), Ogba, on Thursday 15th of February 2024.

In commemoration of her upcoming 70th birthday in March, Oloyede said that most people who have cancer do not have access to treatment or any hope of sustainable care which is becoming alarming.

She further said: “One of the problems now is that medication for cancer is quite expensive and the majority of the equipment used is imported.

“The rate at which new cases of cancer patients are increasing in clinics and public hospitals is quite worrisome, which is why I have spoken to stakeholders and oncologists in provision for sustainable care”

“It is imperative that research should be done to ensure that we find a way of coming up with predicament or medication that will help cancer patients.”

She also stated that the reason the initiative wants to raise money for cancer research is to ensure that treatments are given at a more affordable price

“In a nutshell, the government has a responsibility and role to play as well as to ensure that public hospitals are equipped with adequate health supplies in respect to cancer patients,” she said.
