Wike.Soldier: GTI Human Rights Group Backs Naval Officer in Land Dispute with FCT Minister

-

The leadership of Guard Time Information (GTI) Human Rights Activists Nationwide has declared its full support for Lieutenant A. M. Yerima, a Naval Officer currently involved in a land-related dispute with the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike.
In a meeting held on Wednesday, October 12, GTI Chairman Mr Bibi Oduku convened with legal practitioners, human rights advocates, journalists, and other stakeholders to affirm their commitment to stand by Lieutenant Yerima.

The group emphasised that the officer was carrying out his duties lawfully and had not used any derogatory language toward the Minister.
GTI commended the Honourable Minister of Defence, Mr Mohammad Abubakar, for his public stance in support of Yerima’s rights, describing it as a principled move that reinforces the rule of law.

In a formal statement, GTI urged Minister Wike to approach the matter with discretion and avoid actions that could provoke unnecessary public attention. The group also recommended that Wike engage in direct dialogue with the Former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo, to seek an amicable resolution.

The organisation appealed to the public and social media users to refrain from inflammatory commentary that could heighten tensions. GTI reiterated its commitment to peaceful resolution and due process as the best path forward.
