A 12-year-old boy was among three bodies pulled out from the rubble of a 2 storey building, with a penthouse that collapsed at about 9:30 am along Herbert Macauley Way, Ebute Metta on Friday.
The territorial Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Ibrahim Farinloye, confirmed the deaths on Friday following the incident.
According to Farinloye, the Lagos Building Control Agency (LASBCA) had issued evacuation notices several times and all the original occupants had parked out.
It was alleged that the property had been sold out about four months ago.
However, three of the occupants were said to have jumped to safety with the assistance of other residents in the community.
Farinloye said: “Three bodies, a 12-year-old boy, a woman and a man were among the bodies recovered. This has completed the number of people unaccounted for at the time of arrival of emergency management statutory agencies.
“According to accounts of residents, a dog that the people in the collapsed building had been taking care of got to the building and started barking in a sorrowful manner and refused to eat or enter the building after some minutes when the dog left, the building went down. Operations concluded and evacuation of rubble by LASEMA ongoing.”
