The Bayelsa State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Asinim Butwats, yesterday told julianafrancisnews.com, that all the rifles carted away by sea pirates that attacked police personnel at Southern Ijaw, Bayelsa State, have been recovered.

Butwats revealed this latest development after he reached out to julianafrancisnews.com on the story, “Sea pirates attack policemen, cart away five AK47 rifles,” reported by the site on 14th August 2022.

According to the image maker: “All the rifles have been recovered since last month.”

Julianafrancisnews.com had reported that the Nigeria Police Force was still frantically searching for five of its AK47 rifles, carted away by suspected sea pirates in Southern Ijaw, Bayelsa State.

Julianafrancisnews.com also reported that following the incident, professional drivers were invited to go into the waters, hoping to recover the bodies of policemen. The incident was said to have occurred on the 26th of July 2022.

The pirates were alleged to have attacked 39 people, including two civilians. Also, among the 39 people, seven were mobile policemen and others were conventional policemen.

The two civilians were attached to Dalong Security and Guard company.

The men were ambushed and attacked at Korokorosei Creek. The pirates went away with five AK47 rifles, assigned to the Mopol personnel, loaded with 60 rounds each of ammunition.

A source told Julianafrancisnews.com: “One corpse, identified as a Mopol personnel has been recovered, and search operation by local divers is ongoing to recover the corpses of others who are feared killed.”

Butwats expressed displeasure at not being contacted before the publication of the reports. He, however, refused to state how all the rifles were recovered from the sea pirates.
