The Igando Police Station, Lagos State Police Command, has launched an investigation into the physical abuse of an 11-year-old girl in the state.
According to the child, she came to Lagos in December 2024 with the sister of her aunt.
The woman had promised the child’s mother that she would send her to school and that she was not in the habit of beating children.
However, that promise was not kept. The child said the woman had repeatedly beaten her with a broom and attacked her with a pestle.
On May 30th, 2025, the aunt went out, and the child was left taking care of two other children. When the children started sleeping, she put them on the bed and used clothes to support them so they would not fall off.
When the aunt returned, her mother ( aunt mom) reported to her that the baby had fallen from the bed.
In anger, the aunt used a high-heeled shoe to hit the child several times on the head. The child was eventually rescued by neighbours who took care of her.
The aunt told her, “If you want to die, then die.”
When her husband returned home from work, he said to his wife, “You didn’t beat her enough.”
The case has been reported to the Family Support Unit, Igando Police Division.
