PSC Chairman Advocates for Strong Legal Frameworks to Match Technological Evolution

-

The Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), retired Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Hashimu Argungu, mni, has emphasised the pressing need for legal structures that can keep up with the rapid pace of technological innovation.

Represented by the Commission’s Head of Press and Public Relations, Mr. Ikechukwu Ani, DIG Argungu made this call during a Call to Bar Reception and Book Launch for PSC staff member, Awar Oliver Gwajime, held at the Parry Osayande Auditorium in Abuja.

Argungu highlighted the transformative impact of the Internet of Everything (IoE), noting its influence on daily life, governance, and law enforcement.

He stated that technologies such as digital surveillance, big data analytics, and artificial intelligence are reshaping security operations, raising critical questions around national security, human rights, privacy, and justice.

During the event, the book, Law, Science and Technology (LAST): Jurisprudential Interrogation of the Internet of Everything (IoE) authored by Gwajime, was unveiled.

The PSC Chairman described the publication as a “statement of purpose and vision” that bridges jurisprudence with emerging digital challenges.

“The work challenges us to think critically about the evolving interface between jurisprudence and digital innovation,” Argungu said, applauding the author’s discipline, diligence, and commitment to knowledge.

Argungu urged fellow public servants to transcend traditional boundaries and contribute to intellectual growth and policy development. He described Gwajime’s journey as inspiring and called for continued excellence.

In his remarks, Gwajime expressed deep appreciation for the overwhelming support from colleagues, the PSC leadership, and distinguished guests, including representatives of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Inspector General of Police, and Air Vice Marshal James Gbum, who chaired the occasion.

The ceremony ended on a note of celebration, marking a milestone for scholarship, legal innovation, and visionary leadership in public service.
