Delta Police Foils Stolen Vehicle Sale, Arrests Armed Robbery Suspects

-

Delta State Police Command has recorded two breakthroughs in its fight against crime, recovering a stolen vehicle and arresting armed robbery suspects in separate operations.

On August 5, 2025, at about 5:40 p.m., the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of B Division, Asaba, CSP Edewor Akponegware, received credible intelligence about a suspected stolen Mercedes Benz GLK (registration number: NZM 10 AP) being put up for sale at a parking lot on Former Deputy Road, Asaba.

Acting swiftly, the DPO led operatives of the Division’s Crime Branch to the scene, where they intercepted the sale and arrested one Chinedu Eze, who claimed ownership of the vehicle.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the SUV, registered in April 2023, was re-registered in 2025.

Contact with the original owner confirmed that the car had been snatched at gunpoint in April 2023 at Abakpa, Enugu State, during which the assailants shot the victim. The vehicle has since been recovered.

In a separate incident on August 4, 2025, at about 4:30 a.m., the Ogwashi-Ukwu Police Division received a distress call reporting armed robbers operating along Chelsea Street, Ogwashi-Ukwu.

The DPO, CSP Okoyomon Israel, mobilised the Anti-Crime Squad in collaboration with local vigilantes to the scene. On sighting the operatives, the robbers attempted to flee, but two suspects, identified as Thywill Selvin, 22, of Poly Road, Ogwashi-Ukwu, and Guntim Bako, 32, of Kwale Junction, were arrested.

Items recovered from the suspects include: one pump action rifle with a live cartridge, one Beretta pistol with six live rounds, three live assault rifle rounds, one Daylong motorcycle (REG NO: SAP 369 VK), one Qlink motorcycle (REG NO: URM 750 QV), 25 mobile phones, four laptops, one tablet, a PS4 game console, a home theatre set, two Zealot music players, five bags of clothes, and other valuables. Several victims have since identified their recovered property.

Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, commended the swift and professional response of the operatives and credited the successes to the timely dissemination of public information.

He assured that the Command will sustain intelligence-led operations to rid the state of criminals and urged residents to promptly report suspicious activities, stressing that early reporting is key to crime prevention.
