The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has concluded comprehensive security deployments and operational arrangements ahead of the Ekiti State Governorship Election scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026.
According to the Force, the deployment covers all 2,545 polling units across the state, as well as critical infrastructure, major entry and exit routes, border communities, and other strategic locations.
Providing an update on the Force’s preparedness, the Commissioner of Police in charge of Election Security, CP Shogule Abayomi, said a multi-layered security architecture had been adopted to ensure a peaceful, credible, and hitch-free electoral process.
He explained that security personnel and operational assets had been strategically deployed across polling units and other identified locations to guarantee the safety of voters, electoral officials, observers, and election materials throughout the exercise.
“The deployment is designed to ensure a peaceful, credible and hitch-free electoral process. Security personnel and operational assets have been strategically positioned to safeguard voters, election officials, observers and election materials,” Abayomi said.
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, assured members of the public that all officers deployed for election duty had been adequately briefed on their responsibilities and rules of engagement.
According to the IGP, personnel will discharge their duties professionally, impartially, and in accordance with the law throughout the election period.
The police also warned that electoral offences and any actions capable of undermining the integrity of the electoral process would be dealt with in line with the Electoral Act and other extant laws.
The Force urged citizens to remain law-abiding and conduct themselves peacefully during the election.
To facilitate prompt response to security incidents, the NPF announced the activation of a dedicated election emergency line, 080062335577, which will remain operational throughout the election period.
Members of the public were encouraged to report any security concerns through the hotline for timely intervention.
The police further urged eligible voters to come out peacefully and exercise their constitutional rights without fear or intimidation, while cautioning against the spread of unverified information capable of causing panic or disrupting public order.
Reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, the Nigeria Police Force assured residents of Ekiti State of adequate security and a conducive environment for the conduct of a free, fair, credible and peaceful governorship election.
