The Enugu State Police Command has arrested an 18-year-old man and his accomplice in connection with the kidnapping and murder of his five-year-old cousin.
Obodoagu Ikediekpere Wisdom, 18, and his accomplice, Sunday Michael, 24, were apprehended on August 11 and 12 by the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Tactical Squad. Their arrests followed intelligence gathered after a ransom demand was reported.
The victim, identified as Obodoagu Wisdom, was first reported missing on July 26. Investigations revealed that the prime suspect, Obodoagu Ikediekpere Wisdom, used his accomplice to demand a ₦1,000,000 ransom from the child’s father to conceal his involvement.
When the ransom was not paid, the suspect reportedly murdered the child and buried him in a bush near their home in Okinitor, Amankwo Ngwo, Udi LGA.
During interrogation, both suspects confessed to the crime. The prime suspect later led police to the burial site, where the child’s body was exhumed. Medical personnel were present at the scene and certified the child dead.
Enugu State’s Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has extended his condolences to the bereaved family. He stated that the suspects will be charged in court once the investigation is complete and reiterated the command’s commitment to fighting violent crime and ensuring justice.
