The Delta State Police Command has arrested members of a notorious armed robbery gang and recovered several stolen items, including electronics and vehicles, following a coordinated intelligence-led operation.
On August 26, 2025, at about 8:00 a.m., a man from Agbarho/Otor reported that he was attacked by a five-man armed gang, who carted away his mobile phones, laptops, a 65-inch television, and other valuables.
Acting on the directive of the Area Commander, Ughelli, detectives launched an investigation that led to the arrest of one Faith Perry. One of the stolen phones was recovered from her possession.
During interrogation, Perry confessed that the phone was gifted to her by her boyfriend, identified as Kelly Otobure. A search conducted at Otobure’s residence led to the recovery of several stolen exhibits, including the 65-inch television, a PlayStation 4 console, and additional mobile phones.
Further investigation led to the arrest of the gang leader, Samson Ugbe, popularly known as Big Man, who has been on the command’s wanted list, alongside other members of the syndicate, Emmanuel Edam, Frank Aminu, Sampson Irorowo, and Yahaya Bashir. Two suspected stolen vehicles were also recovered during the operation.
Police investigations revealed that the gang is allegedly responsible for a series of high-profile robberies, including the 2024 attack at Niger Delta University, Oghara, and the Oroye warehouse robbery, where over 180 bags of rice were carted away.
The suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue.
