Enugu Police Arrest Suspected Cultists, Drug Peddlers in Fresh Operations

-

The Enugu State Police Command says it has recorded breakthroughs in its ongoing crackdown on cultism, illicit drugs, and related crimes across the state, following a series of coordinated raids that led to multiple arrests and the recovery of large quantities of narcotics.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Command said operatives of the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad, on November 23, 2025, around 9:15 a.m., stormed a suspected criminal hideout at Holy Ghost by Railway Market Road, Enugu. The team arrested 23-year-old Ani Chinecherem and recovered dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp. According to the police, the suspect confessed to belonging to the Junior Vikings Confraternity.

Earlier on November 17, 2025, around 10:00 a.m., the same squad conducted patrols and raided several black spots in Ibagwa-Francis and Amorji-Nike in Enugu East Local Government Area. The operation led to the arrest of 37-year-old Chinedum Mba in Amorji-Nike, where six large wraps of substances believed to be Ghanaian Loud and other variants of Cannabis Sativa—each valued at about ₦100,000 were recovered.

Two other suspects, 20-year-old John Olaiya and 20-year-old Onyia Oluebube, were also arrested in Ibagwa-Francis with unquantified amounts of similar drugs.

The Command said it is working with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to conclude investigations and ensure prosecution.

Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, assured residents of intensified efforts to dismantle criminal networks, curb drug trafficking, and tackle cultism, especially as the festive season approaches.
