Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has expressed deep sadness over a terrorist attack on communities in Borgu Local Government Area of the state, which reportedly claimed several lives, led to multiple abductions and destroyed livelihoods.
In a statement issued on his behalf by his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, the governor described the attack as cruel and nefarious, condemning the violence unleashed on innocent residents.
According to the statement, the victims of the attack at Kasuwan Daji Market in Sukumbara Village included both Muslims and Christians drawn from different communities within Borgu Local Government Area.
Governor Bago extended his deepest sympathy to the affected communities, particularly the victims and their families, noting that it was disturbing and unfortunate to begin the year with such a tragic incident.
While urging residents to remain steadfast in faith, the governor assured them that his administration is working closely with the Federal Government and relevant security agencies to improve security in the affected areas.
He disclosed that a joint security team has been deployed and is currently trailing the perpetrators, intending to rescue those kidnapped during the attack.
The governor also offered prayers for the repose of the souls of those killed, the safe rescue of abducted victims, the healing of the injured, and the restoration of livelihoods destroyed in the incident.
The attack adds to ongoing security challenges in parts of Niger State, where rural communities have continued to face threats from armed groups.
