-

The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc mnips PhD, has reiterated the Command’s dedication to improved security service delivery as he joined participants at the ongoing Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Capacity-Building Workshop in Awka.
The workshop, themed “Strategic Police Conduct Through Emotional Intelligence, Human Relations, Communication Skills, and Attitudinal Change,” is designed to strengthen professionalism, operational effectiveness, and service-oriented policing within the Nigeria Police Force.

During his visit, CP Orutugu interacted extensively with officers undergoing the training, assessing lecture delivery, assimilation, and practical understanding. He expressed satisfaction with the enthusiasm, discipline, and professionalism displayed by participants, noting that the programme aligns with the IGP’s vision of repositioning the Force through continuous capacity development.

The Commissioner commended the Inspector-General of Police, the Nigeria Police Force Management, and the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) for sponsoring the workshop. He also praised the facilitators and organisers for the quality and depth of the lectures, describing the initiative as timely and impactful in addressing contemporary security challenges.

Highlighting the importance of capacity-building, CP Orutugu emphasised that such initiatives are critical to equipping officers with modern policing skills, intelligence-led strategies, emotional intelligence, and improved community engagement approaches.

He urged participants to translate the knowledge gained into practical field operations, stressing that enhanced capacity must reflect in proactive policing, respect for human rights, professionalism, and increased public confidence in the police.

The Commissioner further pledged that the Anambra State Command would continue to support all initiatives aimed at professional development, assuring residents of the Command’s resolve to deliver enhanced, people-oriented, and effective security services across the State.

The programme, which commenced on Monday, January 19, 2026, at Trig-Point Hotel, Awka, drew participants from various departments and formations within the Anambra State Police Command.
