The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old suspected armed robber in Asaba, recovering an AK-47 rifle, two locally made cut-to-size guns and live ammunition during an intelligence-led operation.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, operatives of the Commissioner of Police Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), Ughelli, arrested the suspect, identified as Sunday Nimel, at about 10:30 p.m. on October 7, 2026.
The operatives, acting on credible intelligence and working with local vigilantes, reportedly picked up Nimel as a suspected member of an armed robbery syndicate allegedly responsible for several residential robberies in Asaba and its environs.
Edafe said the suspect made useful statements under interrogation, which led detectives to a hideout near the Okpanam City Gate. There, the team recovered one AK-47 rifle, three rounds of live ammunition and two locally made cut-to-size guns.
“Investigation is ongoing,” the statement said.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Samuel E. Erale, commended the operatives for the operation. He reiterated the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and to dismantling criminal networks across the state.
The commissioner also urged residents to keep supporting the police with credible information, assuring them that the command remains committed to protecting lives and property.
