Nigerian Army Kicks Off ‘Exercise FAST BOLT IV’ to Tackle Emerging Security Threats

-

In a strategic move to bolster national security, the Commander of the Nigerian Army Training Centre (NATRAC), Major General AGL Haruna, officially inaugurated the Exercise FAST BOLT IV double stream today at the Kontagora Military Cantonment.

This intensive specialised training program is designed to sharpen the combat readiness of troops as they face an increasingly complex landscape of asymmetric warfare, including terrorism and insurgency.

Speaking at the parade ground, General Haruna emphasised that the inauguration reaffirms NATRAC’s mandate to produce a force capable of neutralising multi-dimensional threats. The curriculum, which began on January 19 and is set to conclude on May 8, 2026, covers a rigorous duration of nearly sixteen weeks.

General Haruna stated that the training is critical to building the troops’ confidence and providing them with the necessary skills to face the numerous security challenges that the country is currently confronting headlong. The training focuses on essential field skills such as battle drills, survival training, convoy drills, marksmanship, base camp security, and counter-ambush techniques.

Beyond physical combat, the program also incorporates modern institutional concerns, including the appropriate use of social media, human rights protections, and the gender policy for the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

General Haruna noted that the exercise aligns directly with the Command Philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff. The overarching goal is to transform the Nigerian Army into a more professional, adaptable, and resilient force capable of decisively discharging its constitutional responsibilities within a joint and multi-agency environment.

While the Commander assured trainees that basic infrastructure has been provided to ensure a robust experience, he issued a stern warning against professional misconduct. He noted that any form of indiscipline would be met with severe sanctions.

Additionally, he cautioned trainees against the abuse of social media, which could bring disrepute to the Nigerian Army. He charged the instructors to uphold the highest standards of instruction and ethical conduct to ensure the training remains relevant and professional.

The ceremony concluded with General Haruna expressing gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff for his strategic guidance and continuous support of the centre. He also commended his principal staff officers, soldiers, and administrative personnel, urging them to give their best to ensure the training achieves its intended mission.

The event ended with a display of high morale, featuring three hearty cheers and group photographs with the trainees.
