DIG Visits FCID Annex, Commends Officers’ Sacrifice, Calls for Stronger Oversight to Protect Communities

-

The Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department, DIG Sadiq Idris Abubakar, paid a working visit to the FCID Annexe, Alagbon, Ikoyi, Lagos on Tuesday as part of statutory oversight to strengthen investigative standards and boost operational efficiency across the Nigeria Police Force.

During the visit, DIG Abubakar urged commissioned officers to make significant and positive contributions in their areas of responsibility and to project the Nigeria Police Force and the FCID in a positive light, stressing that the FCID remains the apex body for criminal investigation in Nigeria.

He directed senior officers to closely supervise subordinates to entrench discipline, accountability, and strict adherence to existing rules and procedures.

The DIG warned that land ownership disputes are essentially civil matters and should not be treated as police investigations unless criminal elements such as fraud, threats to life, or violence are present. He also instructed officers to harmonise case handling and avoid parallel investigations of the same matter across different sections to prevent duplication of effort and improve efficiency.

DIG Abubakar commended officers and men of the command for their sacrifices, resilience, and commitment to duty despite operational challenges, assuring them that their efforts are recognised and appreciated. He reiterated the importance of professionalism and integrity, saying all officers must support the Inspector‑General of Police’s mission and vision for a more effective and safer Nigeria.

In response, the Assistant Inspector‑General of Police in charge of FCID Annexe, AIG Margaret Ochalla, fsi, thanked the DIG for the visit and guidance and reaffirmed the command’s unwavering commitment to the mission and vision of the Force Criminal Investigation Department.

The statement was issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, FCID Annexe, Alagbon, Ikoyi, Lagos, ASP Mayegun Aminat
