Police Arrest Two Suspected Robbers, Recover Toy Pistols in Ibadan

-

The Oyo State Police Command has announced the arrest of two suspected armed robbers following an intelligence-led operation in Ibadan.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the operation was carried out after credible information from residents about suspected criminal activities along Elebu-Oja, off Alao-Akala Expressway.

“The Oyo State Police Command wishes to inform the public of a successful operation following credible intelligence received from vigilant citizens regarding the activities of hoodlums who allegedly rob unsuspecting members of the public along Elebu-Oja, off Alao-Akala Expressway, Ibadan,” Olayinka said.

He explained that operatives of the Command’s Anti-Counterfeiting and Fraud Unit immediately launched a surveillance patrol in the area to apprehend the suspects and prevent further crimes.

During the patrol, the police arrested two suspects identified as Elijah Teejay, 21, and Ottu Emmanuel, 33.

“A search conducted on their person and belongings led to the recovery of two toy pistols and some illicit drugs, which were immediately secured as exhibits for investigation,” the police spokesperson stated. “The swift response of the operatives prevented potential escalation of criminal activity and safeguarded the community.”

Police said preliminary interrogation revealed that the suspects allegedly confessed to multiple robbery incidents along the axis and other locations within and outside Oyo State.

“Upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to multiple acts of robbery along the aforementioned axis and other locations within and outside Oyo State,” Olayinka added. “These individuals, who operate across state lines, have reportedly caused significant havoc in many communities, dispossessing victims of their valuables and instilling fear among residents.”

The suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue.

The Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, has directed that the suspects be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

“The Commissioner commends members of the public for their vigilance and timely action, which directly contributed to the detection and arrest of the suspects,” Olayinka said.

He also conveyed the command’s appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for his support and commitment to intelligence-led policing.

The police urged residents to remain security conscious and continue providing useful information to law enforcement agencies, assuring that efforts to rid the state of criminal elements will continue.

Residents were also encouraged to report suspicious activities to the nearest police formation or through the Oyo State Call Response Centre toll-free line 615, or the Command’s control room numbers.  #securitynewsalert.com
