The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Ms Kemi Nanna Nandap, has called for stronger collaboration and professionalism among officers as the Service commenced a nationwide sensitisation workshop on the validated National Migration Policy (2025).

Nandap made the call during a training and sensitisation programme held on Monday, March 30, 2026, in Ikeja, themed “Enhancing Public Awareness of the Validated 2025 National Migration Policy (NMP).”

Nandap was represented at the event by the Zonal Coordinator, Zone A, Assistant Comptroller-General (ACG) Mr Mohammed Adamu.

Speaking at the flag-off, Nandap described the initiative as a crucial step toward strengthening migration governance and national security in response to evolving global trends.

“I am honoured to address this important gathering marking the commencement of the nationwide sensitisation workshop on the validated National Migration Policy (2025),” she said.

Nandap noted that the Service played a key role as a critical stakeholder in the development of the policy.

She highlighted several reforms undertaken by the Service to modernise migration management, including the introduction of the e-Visa regime, the Contactless Passport Application System, e-Border infrastructure, Passport Personalisation Centres, and the ECOWAS National Biometric Identity Card.

She added: “These efforts have culminated in the validation of the National Migration Policy (2025), as migration remains a critical driver of national development, security, and international cooperation.”

She further noted that the increasing complexities of global migration require a coordinated and forward-looking approach, emphasising the dual role of Nigeria’s borders.

“Our borders serve as the first line of defence against threats such as human trafficking, smuggling of migrants, terrorism, and other transnational crimes, while also functioning as gateways for legitimate trade, investment, and tourism,” Nandap said.

She emphasised the need to strike a balance between security and facilitation through sustained inter-agency collaboration.

According to her, the new policy builds on the 2015 framework, aligning Nigeria with global commitments such as the Sustainable Development Goals and the Global Compact for Migration.

“The validated National Migration Policy (2025) addresses emerging realities, strengthens institutional coordination, and positions Nigeria for more effective migration governance,” she said.

Calling for effective implementation, she urged officers across all commands to demonstrate commitment and professionalism.

“The success of this policy will depend largely on its effective implementation. Your understanding and application of its provisions are essential,” she added.

Describing the sensitisation programme as a strategic capacity-building initiative, Nandap encouraged participants to engage and translate knowledge into improved operational performance actively.

“We must remain committed to building a migration system that is secure, efficient, humane, and aligned with national priorities,” she said.

The training and sensitisation workshop is expected to run for two days, with participants tasked to cascade the knowledge to their colleagues across various commands and zones.
