The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has carried out precision airstrikes that destroyed suspected terrorist hideouts in the Southern Tumbuns area of Borno State.
The operation, conducted on April 24, 2026, targeted Ali Sheriffti, a known terrorist enclave, as part of ongoing efforts under Operation HADIN KAI to degrade insurgent capabilities in the North-East.
In a statement, the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, said the mission was based on credible intelligence indicating the presence of terrorist elements in the area.
“Acting on credible intelligence of terrorist activity, NAF air assets conducted a focused surveillance sweep, during which several insurgents were sighted moving along concealed tracks,” Ejodame said.
He added that following identification, the air component carried out a precision strike on the location.
“Subsequently, the NAF executed a precise strike, engaging the structures with onboard munitions, destroying terrorist structures and further degrading their capability and freedom of movement in the area,” he said.
The statement noted that the latest strike underscores the Air Force’s commitment to intelligence-led and precision-driven operations aimed at denying terrorists safe havens.
Also reacting, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, reaffirmed the force’s resolve to sustain pressure on insurgent groups.
“The Nigerian Air Force will continue to pursue and dismantle terrorist networks with unwavering precision and relentless force, ensuring no enclave remains beyond our reach,” Aneke said.
The Southern Tumbuns, located within the Lake Chad region, have long been identified as a stronghold for terrorist groups due to their difficult terrain and network of waterways, which provide cover for insurgent activities. #Securitynewsalert.com
