The Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre (RULAAC) has issued an urgent appeal regarding the suspected enforced disappearance of prominent Nigerian content creator and social commentator, Mark Justice Chidiebere.
Known widely by his alias Justice Crack, Chidiebere has been missing since Tuesday, April 28, 2026. According to statements from his family and close associates, the activist left his residence for an undisclosed meeting in the capital city following a phone call.
He has not been seen since, and all attempts to reach him via his mobile devices have been unsuccessful.
The circumstances surrounding Chidiebere’s disappearance have led to significant concern within the civil rights community.
RULAAC Executive Director Okechukwu Nwanguma noted that the activist had recently been vocal in his criticism of Nigerian security agencies, specifically highlighting issues of human rights violations and a lack of institutional accountability.
“His disappearance under such circumstances creates a chilling effect on freedom of expression and civic participation in Nigeria,” Nwanguma stated. He emphasised that the pattern of a sudden departure for a meeting followed by total silence from authorities points toward a disturbing trend of arbitrary detention.
RULAAC reminded the federal government of its binding duties under the 1999 Constitution and the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights. The organisation argued that the state is legally obligated to protect the liberty of its citizens and must promptly investigate any instance where an individual goes missing under suspicious conditions.
The group further asserted that the silence from official quarters is “unacceptable” and only serves to deepen public anxiety and undermine confidence in state institutions.
The advocacy centre has laid out a clear set of demands for the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and military authorities. RULAAC is calling for an immediate clarification on whether Chidiebere is in state custody and is demanding his prompt release if he is being held unlawfully.
The organisation is also pushing for a transparent, independent investigation into the disappearance, insisting that Chidiebere be granted immediate access to legal representation and his family.
“Nigeria must not descend into a state where citizens disappear for expressing dissenting views,” the statement concluded. “Enforced disappearance is not only a grave human rights violation—it is an assault on the rule of law itself.”
As of press time, security agencies have yet to issue an official response regarding Chidiebere’s status or whereabouts. Domestic and international observers continue to monitor the situation closely, echoing RULAAC’s final warning: “Nothing must happen to him.”
