The Nigeria Police Force has recorded a breakthrough in its campaign against violent crime following the arrest of a notorious criminal syndicate allegedly responsible for a series of armed robbery, kidnapping, and deadly “One Chance” operations across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The arrests were made by operatives of the Special Tactical Squad (STS) of the Force Intelligence Department (FID), who dismantled the gang after extensive investigations into its activities.
According to police authorities, the syndicate had terrorised residents of Abuja for several years, targeting unsuspecting commuters through the notorious “One Chance” scheme, abducting victims, extorting ransom payments from their families, and, in some cases, killing victims even after receiving large sums of money.
Investigations by the police further linked the gang to the murder of a nurse, Chinemerem Chukwumeziem, who was killed in January 2026 after being abducted by the criminals.
The suspects were also implicated in the killing of another victim, Chinenye Bridget Abia, in February 2026, in a case that sparked widespread public outrage and renewed concerns over insecurity in the nation’s capital.
Police described the arrests as a significant success in ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks operating within the FCT and assured residents that investigations are continuing to identify and apprehend other syndicate members.
The Force reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.
