Police Arrest Two Suspected Cultists, Recover Pump-Action Gun, Illicit Drugs in Delta

-

The Delta State Police Command has arrested two suspected cultists and recovered a pump-action gun, live cartridges, suspected illicit drugs, and other incriminating items during a raid on a criminal hideout in Ibusa, Oshimili North Local Government Area.

According to the Command, operatives of the Command Anti-Cultism Unit (CACU), acting on credible intelligence, carried out the operation on June 19, 2026, at about 11:45 p.m. as part of ongoing efforts to combat cult-related violence and other criminal activities across the state.

The operation led to the arrest of 26-year-old Okonkwo Prosper of Aniofu, Aniocha North Local Government Area, and 25-year-old Tuesday Emmanuel, who resides at the same address.

Police said a search conducted during the raid resulted in the recovery of one English-made pump-action gun loaded with five live cartridges, a cutlass, charms, and substances suspected to be illicit drugs.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are alleged members of a cult group linked to several cult-related clashes in Ibusa and surrounding communities.

The suspects are currently in police custody, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the criminal group who escaped during the operation.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling cultism and other violent crimes across the state.

He warned individuals involved in cult-related activities to desist from such acts or face the full weight of the law. The police commissioner also urged residents to continue supporting law enforcement agencies by providing timely and credible information that would aid crime-fighting efforts.
