Four Nurses Honour Police Invitation as Investigation Into Workplace Dispute Continues

-

Four nurses invited by the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Alagbon, Lagos, have honoured the police invitation as investigations continue into a dispute involving their former employer, Abby’s Paediatric Care.

In a statement issued by its National Coordinator, Nurse Thomas Abiodun Olamide, the Elegant Nurses Forum said the nurses, accompanied by legal counsel provided by the Lagos Take-It-Back (TIB) Movement, reported to the FCID on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, where they made statements to investigating officers.

According to the forum, the investigation could not proceed further because the complainant, Abby’s Paediatric Care, and its legal representative were absent. Police subsequently directed all parties to return on Tuesday next week for the continuation of the investigation.

The forum commended officers at the FCID for their conduct during the process, stating that the affected nurses reported they were treated professionally and with respect throughout their visit to the police facility.

The four nurses involved in the matter are Tayo-Etimiri Omosekemi, Ajani Adedoyin, Ajiku Oluwakemisola and Anyanwu Prince.

The forum said the nurses reiterated concerns raised during the investigation, including allegations of poor staff welfare, underpayment, delayed salaries, workplace disrespect and an unhealthy working environment.

They also alleged interference with patient care, claiming that the hospital’s Chief Operating Officer, Mrs Ojelabi Kehinde Imoleoluwa Hannah, who they described as a relative of the hospital owner and not a medical practitioner, interfered with nursing duties by interrupting nurses while they attended to patients and provided health education.

The Elegant Nurses Forum maintained that healthcare workers should not be intimidated or victimised for raising concerns about workplace conditions or patient safety, describing such reports as part of their professional responsibility.

The organisation called on the Lagos State Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA) to investigate the allegations and inspect the hospital’s operations. It also urged the Nigerian Association of Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), labour authorities, trade unions and civil society organisations to investigate the issues raised and take appropriate action where necessary.

The forum further called on healthcare employers to respect the professional independence of nurses and other licensed healthcare workers by avoiding interference from individuals who are not qualified healthcare practitioners.

It expressed appreciation to the Lagos Take-It-Back Movement, particularly its Head of Legal Department, Barrister Bolaji, for providing legal representation and transport support to the affected nurses.

The forum said it would continue to monitor the police investigation while advocating for what it described as justice, due process and the protection of nurses’ rights.

Abby’s Paediatric Care has yet to publicly respond to the allegations contained in the statement, and the claims made by the nurses have not been independently verified.
